Come out and support the artists

Letter to the editor
Aspen, CO, Colorado

Wow! Some wonderful professional outdoor painters are in in town for the Aspen Plein Aire event. Some of them are fresh off the Telluride Plein Air Celebration, which is like a week-long party that attracts a multitude of art lovers, locals and art collectors to town to watch these artists paint in the streets and surroundings.

If you have never attended a 90-minute live outdoor painting competition (“paint out”), head on down to Mill Street mall today around 3-4:30. Aspen professes to be a town that supports the arts, so let’s support the artists who have come to participate. Council and ACRA please note, Aspen Plein Aire could be as big a draw as the Telluride or the king of all events, Easton, Md.

Let’s get behind it. Greet the artists we see painting, make them welcome, house them, promote the event and perhaps the fledgling Aspen Plein Aire 2012 will engender the income and panache that more seasoned Plein Aire events do.
