Come celebrate Droste opening

Dear Editor:

On Tuesday, June 28, Pitkin County, the town of Snowmass Village, the city of Aspen, and Great Outdoors Colorado will host a celebration and ribbon cutting at the newly acquired Droste property. We all hope that you, members of the public who now own the property, will attend the festivities. They begin at 3 p.m. at the Town Park in Snowmass Village and include music, refreshments and a guided trips onto the property using two-footed, four -footed or two-wheeled transportation (no dogs, please).

This open space purchase is the most important open space purchase in the upper valley. It not only prevented development of 10 large houses on the prominent ridge between the airport and Brush Creek Road, it secured wildlife habitat, rarely found intact plant communities, critical links among the County Open Space, Snowmass Village and city of Aspen trail systems, and the connection of roughly 2,800 acres of various open space properties in the upper valley.

All the hosts of Tuesday’s event are excited to celebrate these achievements and we hope to see a big public turn out to help us. Please come help us celebrate!
