OBERHOFEN, Switzerland ” The Colorado towns of Vail and Beaver Creek have made a joint bid to host Alpine skiing’s world championships in 2015, contending with resorts in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, and St. Moritz, Switzerland.

All three bidders were candidates last year when the Austrian resort of Schladming was awarded the 2013 event. The International Ski Federation will choose the 2015 host in June 2010.

The Vail-Beaver Creek bid team believes the two-week championship should come to Colorado for the first time since 1999 because Schladming will be the seventh straight European venue for the worlds.

The French village of Val d’Isere staged the worlds in February, and Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany will hold the 2011 event.

The federation received one bid, from Harrachov in the Czech Republic, for the 2014 ski flying world championships.

Four resorts applied for the 2015 Nordic skiing worlds: Falun, Sweden; Lahti, Finland; Oberstdorf, Germany; and Zakopane, Poland. Kreischberg in Austria is the only bidder for the 2015 freestyle and snowboard worlds.
