Colorado House backs I-70 ‘zipper’ lane
Aspen, CO Colorado
DENVER – The Colorado House has approved and sent to the governor a bill that could reduce weekend traffic jams on Interstate 70.
The measure approved Friday would allow the state to set up a “zipper” lane on weekends, using moveable concrete barriers to temporarily add an extra eastbound lane.
The state Department of Transportation says it doesn’t need a bill to install a zipper lane, but Sen. Chris Romer, D-Denver, who is sponsoring the bill, says it could help the state win federal permission.
Romer said he’d like to see it in place by next ski season.
