CMC picks new dean for Roaring Fork Campus

CARBONDALE ” Carla Malmquist has accept­ed the position of dean at Colorado Mountain College’s Roaring Fork Campus in Carbondale.

Malmquist is currently dean of business, social and behavioral sciences at Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs. She will begin in late June, when current Roaring Fork Campus dean, Nan­cy Genova, will move to the college’s dis­trict offices in Glenwood Springs to take on responsibilities in support of the incoming college president, Dr. Stan Jensen.

Jensen will take over on July 1, after cur­rent president, Bob Spuhler, retires after 20 years with the college.

“I am honored to be selected as the new Roaring Fork Campus dean for Colorado Mountain College,” Malmquist said. “I look forward to championing the mission and vision of a college so committed to serving its community.”

Previous to her position at Pikes Peak Community College, Malmquist had held several positions at Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, including coordinator of the Center for Enhancement of the Learning and Teaching; interim vice presi­dent of instruction, dean of the health, math, science and engineering division; and director of the physical therapist assis­tant program. She has also worked for Auro­ra Public Schools and Kaiser Permanente.

Malmquist holds a master’s degree in health services administration from the University of Colorado-Denver and a bachelor of science in physical therapy from Florida International University. Last year she participated on the statewide strategic planning team for the Colorado Community College System, which includes all the state’s community col­leges except local-district colleges CMC and Aims Community College. She is also a member and past chair of the Colorado Statewide Dean’s Council.

“We are fortunate to have someone of Carla Malmquist’s experience joining us,” Spuhler said. “Having worked previously at two different community colleges in the state, and by participating in planning at the state level, she will bring a welcome perspective to CMC.”
