Clapper’s clarifications

This letter is to clarify where I stand on a few Aspen School District issues.

1. International Baccalaureate Program: I am NOT against this program. I just want to be sure it is not only fiscally responsible (the best bang for the taxpayer’s buck) but is also in the best educational interest of ALL students.

2. Choice, Capacity and Class Size (out-of district students): I do NOT support de-enrolling out-of-district students currently enrolled in the Aspen School District.

3. Standardized Tests: I understand the need for these tests. I do NOT support teaching children to “test.” I believe that teachers need to be allowed to teach. This will allow our children to learn what they really need to know and the test scores will then follow.

4. The “whole child”: I support academics but not without equal support being given to arts, athletics, vocational opportunities, community involvement, and Outdoor and Ex Ed Programs.

I also want to remind voters to bring a picture ID when they vote. It’s a new law!
