City, county lend a plowing hand

Dear Editor:

On behalf of the U.S. Forest Service, I would like to thank Pitkin County and the city of Aspen for graciously plowing Maroon Creek Road and the parking lots at the Maroon Bells Recreation Area prior to Memorial Day weekend. The deep snowpack and avalanche debris presented challenges to opening the road and facilities on time.

With the help from Pitkin County’s Road Department and the city of Aspen’s parks department we were able to have the area operational for the busy weekend. Special thanks to Stephen Ellsperman and G.R. Fielding for coordinating the plowing efforts.
