City Councilman J.E. DeVilbiss dies

Aspen – City Councilman J.E. DeVilbiss has died. He was 74.

DeVilbiss passed away at Valley View Hospital on Thursday at about 9:30 p.m., according Jack Johnson, DeVilbiss’ colleague on the council since 2005 when the two men were elected into office.

The cause of death is unknown. DeVilbiss has been suffering from detiorating health problems for months. Johnson took DeVilbiss to the hospital on Wednesday, Sept. 10, where he remained until his death.

Friends, family and colleagues had been by his side in the hospital during his final days.

DeVilbiss was a retired judge in the Pitkin County District Court system.
