Choose candidates carefully

Dear Editor:The major issues for Aspen, according to most people, are the Entrance to Aspen, loss of community, environment and rampant construction. Actually, there is only one issue facing Aspen because the others are subsumed within it – we have too many people doing too much development, construction and renovation for too much money. If the next administration will dramatically limit construction in Aspen to only those projects which greatly benefit the public, they will reduce the number of trucks entering town and the traffic congestion that we now have (perhaps even making it manageable without more road construction); they will reduce the environmentally damaging dirt, noise and pollution, which inevitably accompany those trucks and construction generally; and they will reduce the large number of residences, which people actually live in from being scraped (or lifted up and moved if historic) and replaced with trophy second homes (and the resulting loss of community). No one wants to stop all construction, just the part which fills the developers’ pockets with profits but doesn’t really help the city, as are so many projects now under construction. In choosing candidates, please choose those who advocate quality of life for those living in our town and not those who will be cheerleaders for other developers.Joe MyersAspen
