Chitty to be represented by Goldstein

ASPEN – Part-time Aspen resident and attorney Gerry Goldstein has been hired to represent Montgomery Chitty in his cocaine-distribution case, according to papers filed Wednesday in a Florida federal court.
A longtime Aspen resident living in Florida at the time of his arrest, Chitty, 60, remains incarcerated in Florida without bond. He was arrested Monday morning in Key West and faces a charge of conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine.
A grand jury indicted him in December following a 2010 Drug Enforcement Administration investigation into cocaine distribution in Aspen. In April, 10 defendants were charged in a cocaine conspiracy in Aspen and the Los Angeles area. Seven have pleaded guilty to various charges since then.
If convicted as charged, Chitty faces 10 years to life in prison and as much as a $10 million fine.
Goldstein’s primary law practice is based in San Antonio. He is well known for his defense work in drug cases, and is licensed to practice in Colorado.
