Cheryl Ann Lurie passed on Sunday, Nov. 15, as a result of injuries received from a fall at the Library Plaza. She was 54, and had lived in Aspen since 1975.

Cheryl was born in Beverly, Mass., to John and Laura York. She attended the Beverly school system and graduated from Beverly High School. A few years after graduation, she moved to Aspen and worked at the Hickory House during her earlier years in town and afterward at O’Leary’s pub. She was currently employed as a landscaper and gardener. While in Aspen, she met and married Marty Lurie. They had been married for 19 years. Cheryl is survived by a brother, Richard York, and a sister, Darlene Harrison.

Cheryl was known in our community as a caring and loving person. She always brought a sense of humor and joy to her friends. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Aspen Elks Lodge No. 224. She was recognized as an exceptional volunteer in both.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, and a gravesite service will follow. After the conclusion of the services, a reception will be held at the Elks Lodge in her honor. An account has been established in her name at Wells Fargo Bank.

Cheryl Lurie has touched the hearts of so many people, and we invite you to join us in celebrating her life. We will always remember her spark and joy of living.
