ASPEN ” A man who led police on a chase from Snowmass Village through Aspen and back out of town on Monday was stopped near the Aspen golf course after one last, wild ride.

An ambulance was summoned to the bike path near the golf course, where the man apparently crashed after obtaining a pickup truck somewhere on the town’s east side, where he was running from authorities on foot. He drove the truck at a high speed out of town.

A witness said the truck spun completely around in the Maroon Creek roundabout, left Highway 82 and was traveling in reverse down the bike path next to the golf course, forcing a couple of pedestrians to jump out of harm’s way.

The driver was apparently hurt; the extent of his injuries is unknown.

Sirens were screaming in town off and on for much of the morning as police responded to sightings of the suspect. The incident was declared “terminated” shortly after 10:30 a.m.

The man was riding a silver and blue motorcycle when he was initially stopped in Snowmass. He drove it at high speeds to Aspen, on a combination of roads and bike paths, but abandoned the cycle at about 9:45 a.m.

A police spokesman said authorities are unsure if the man is the same suspect who was involved in a chase through the West End in a stolen vehicle earlier Monday.
