Change of locale for Basalt meeting

Aspen Times Staff Report

The site of a meeting designed as the first step to study if county lines should be adjusted in the middle Roaring Fork Valley has been changed from Basalt Town Hall to the high school.

The meeting will be held as scheduled today from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., but will now be held at Basalt High School.

The purpose, according to a press release from organizers, is, “To form a Blue Ribbon Committee to evaluate the feasibility and appropriateness of changing the Mid-Valley’s county jurisdiction. In other words, should the Mid-Valley remain in Eagle County or is there another alternative that merits consideration?”

Organizers with the town of Basalt warned they won’t let the meeting turn into a discussion of pros and cons of altering county lines.

“That will happen at length in the future,” the press release said. “This meeting is being held for the purpose of selecting a Blue Ribbon Committee to evaluate all aspects of this question.”
