Chairs from FIS on sale

Today, for $250, you can buy a piece of Aspen history. The Aspen Skiing Co. will sell chairs from the original FIS lift, which was the oldest running lift in Colorado before it was removed earlier this summer, at the Buttermilk parking lot from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All proceeds will go to the company’s Environment Foundation, which funds a variety of environmental causes throughout the Roaring Fork Valley. All of the profits will support environmental causes such as trail maintenance and erosion control, water quality protection, open space preservation and energy efficiency, according to a Skico press release. The Environment Foundation has donated more than $618,000 since it was created by Skico employees in 1997. The old FIS lift, which was erected in 1957, will be replaced but will remain a double and won’t represent much of a change, according to the Skico. On July 3, the Girl Scouts will be selling chairs from the original West Buttermilk lift, which is being replaced by a new high-speed quad that promises to be more beginner friendly and will cut travel time by more than half. For an additional $50, FIS chairs can be delivered to your door.Steve Benson’s e-mail address is
