Celebrating our students
Dear Editor:This past Saturday, many of us had the chance to be truly inspired by the successes of a number of our valley’s English language learners. English in Action, a nonprofit that provides one-on-one English instruction to immigrant adults, held its fifth annual Celebrating Our Students event.Thank you to everyone whose generosity, hard work and caring made this event such a big success.Businesses: Thanks to Epicurious for providing gourmet grillables and Jeffreezz Italian Ices for providing a tasty dessert, all “at cost.” Thanks to local photographer Jim Paussa for shooting and donating gorgeous portrait photos of each of our student-tutor pairs. Thanks to the St. Regis Hotel, Snowmass Sports and Carl’s Pharmacy for donating great gifts for our student prize drawing.Eagle County: Thank you for providing such a great space for our event. Your outdoor grounds made a beautiful backdrop for our picnic dinner. And your meeting room provided us with an appropriately formal setting for the “Recognition of Our Students” portion of the event.Volunteer tutors: Thank you for all that you have done during the past year to support your student’s success. And thanks for feeding us so well at the event itself. Together you created a delicious buffet spread for our hungry bunch of 100 event attendees.Adult learners: Thank you for inspiring us! Your hard work and dedication have paid off. Congratulations on all you have achieved. We are so proud of you.So many people willing to give. So many people reaching to better themselves. This event reminded me of how proud I am to be part of this community!Julie Fox-RubinExecutive directorEnglish In Action
