CDOT seeks bids for Maroon Creek Bridge work

Aspen Times staff report
Aspen, CO Colorado

ASPEN – Officials from the Colorado Department of Transportation met Tuesday with three potential bidders on a project to install netting between the new Maroon Creek Bridge and the adjacent, out-of-commission bridge. The deadline for bids is Feb. 25.

The work is being pursued in the aftermath of the death of George Aldrich Jr. He was traveling home from Aspen to Snowmass Village on the night of Nov. 27 when it is believed he mistakenly got off a bus at Truscott Place. Aldrich, 28, was intoxicated and apparently decided to head back into Aspen. Indications are he crossed Highway 82, fell in the narrow gap between the two bridges and plunged to his death. The Pitkin County Coroner’s Office ruled his death accidental.

The price of the netting project will be announced after the bid process is complete.
