Castle Creek Pedestrian Bridge closed due to damage
The Castle Creek Overpass Pedestrian Bridge was struck by a dump truck Wednesday and, due to damage, the overpass bridge will be closed until further notice, city officials said.
The Castle Creek Overpass Pedestrian Bridge connects Marolt Open Space to the Aspen Chapel and upvalley points on Castle Creek Road. An alternate route to get from downtown Aspen to the Aspen School District campus and all points in that region is to use the ABC Trail (north side of Highway 82) to the roundabout and then use the underpass at the roundabout.
The damage will require permanent repairs once a structural engineer has assessed the current condition and recommends a plan of action, the city said in a news release. Until then, Castle Creek Road will be open to two-way traffic.
