Cast announced for ‘The Sound of Music in Concert’
Leads include Christy Altomare, Brandon Victor Dixon

A stacked slate of Broadway talent will perform Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music” in concert at the Benedict Music Tent on July 25 and 26.
Theatre Aspen and and the Aspen Music Festival and School have teamed up on the production. The principal cast was announced Friday.
Maria Rainer will be played by Christy Altomare (“Anastasia”), who also performed in the Theatre Aspen and Aspen Music Fest concert productions of “South Pacific” in 2019 and “The Sweetest Sounds: The Music of Richard Rodgers” in 2021.
Captain Georg von Trapp will be played by Brandon Victor Dixon (“Hamilton”), who also performed in “The Sweetest Sounds.”
The cast also includes Ashley Blanchet (“Frozen”) as Baroness Elsa Schräder, Grammy Award-winning soprano Ana María Martínez as Mother Abbess and Brad Oscar (“The Producers” on Broadway) as Max Detweiler.
Several local youth also will perform in the production.
Professional dancers return to Aspen to perform in ‘The Nutcracker’
Roaring Fork Valley natives Emily Ridings and Nikki Ferry have come full circle when it comes to dance. Both studied dance with Aspen Santa Fe Ballet (ASFB) as kids, continued their training with other prominent schools, and now return this weekend, as ASFB presents “The Nutcracker” at Aspen District Theater.
