Cash register stolen from restaurant

A Basalt restaurant had its cash register stolen Monday night, the latest in a rash of burglaries targeting midvalley businesses.Taqueria El Chicano was broken into between 10 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. yesterday, according to Basalt Police Chief Keith Ikeda.The thief or thieves pried the eatery’s rear door to gain entry. The cash register and a portable radio were taken. Ikeda did not release the amount of cash taken.There are no suspects, but “we think [it’s] related to all the burglaries going up and down this valley,” Ikeda said. “They’re mainly hitting restaurants.”Businesses in Carbondale and El Jebel have also been targeted. Anyone with knowledge of these crimes is asked to call Basalt police at 927-4316.
