A May 21 memorial service is planned for Carol Ann Hamilton, who died May 9.

Carol Ann Hamilton passed away Tuesday evening, May 9, at the age of 55. She was known as a sweetheart, a gracious giver, a courageous mother and a wonderful friend to many.

After falling in love with the Rocky Mountains in her college years, she moved to the Roaring Fork Valley from her hometown in Maryland. She worked as a nurse at Aspen Valley Hospital and the Mid-Valley Clinic for the past 25 years. She was married to Jonathan Kurz from 1983-91.

Carol is survived by her two daughters, Amanda and Sara Kurz; her mother, Laura Hamilton of Bethesda, Md.; and brother Phil Hamilton of Bethesda. She is also survived by her longtime boyfriend, Richard Blanchard, and his two children, Rick and Heather.

At her request, she was cremated, and her ashes will be dispersed among several of her favorite places. Carol will always be remembered for her inner strength, which she carried and passed on to all who knew her.There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at Basalt Community United Methodist Church, 0167 Holland Hills Road, Basalt. A reception will follow the service at the church.
