Carbondale needs Marketplace

I have been doing some deep thinking, and isn’t it strange that a lot of these people that are against the Marketplace are the same people that think it is all right to infill on some of the nicest big lots in “Old Town Carbondale”? This is also contributing to growth and traffic problems, etc., that they are so against.

At least the Marketplace would be bringing in monetary resources for the town to furnish extra services for these infills. And if the infill keeps up at the rate it is going we are certainly going to have to have these services.

I also think it is a real slap in the face to the town staff to keep insinuating that the Marketplace personnel are pulling the blanket over the town’s eyes. We have a very wise and capable planning department and building department, and I think they are sharp enough not to be snowballed.

Weren’t these the same insinuations that went on with River Valley Ranch, and they seem to be keeping a pretty good handle on its development?

We definitely need this shopping center to help with the town services and bring some kind of activity into the town. Aren’t the number of businesses that have already closed scary enough to wonder what is going to happen in the future if there isn’t something to attract consumers into our area?

As far as traffic is concerned, it is going to get nothing but worse anyway, so why not take care of Highway 133 now rather than wait 10 or 20 years when it will cost a whole lot more?

Please get out and vote, and vote yes for the Marketplace for the future of Carbondale.
