Carbondale firefighters douse blaze in Ranch at Roaring Fork

Post Independent staff reportAspen, CO Colorado

CARBONDALE – Firefighters doused a brush fire Friday afternoon that torched about a dozen cottonwood trees at the Ranch at Roaring Fork, according to a press release issued by Deputy Fire Chief Rob Goodwin of the Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed to have been started by a downed powerline. Fierce winds made the fire grow quickly, Goodwin reported.Firefighters were called about the brush fire at 3:42 p.m. Friday. It took 18 minutes to get to the scene because of its remote location in the Ranch at Roaring Fork subdivision, he said. The fire department responded with five fire trucks and water tenders and 16 firefighters. Holy Cross Energy also responded to the scene. No one was injured, no structures were threatened and no evacuations were needed, Goodwin said.”The Carbondale Fire District volunteer and paid firefighters, along with the Basalt Fire District, did a great job of responding quickly and doing an aggressive initial attack on a fire that had the potential of becoming a much larger fire,” Goodwin said. “The fire was brought under control efficiently and safely due to a great team effort by these responders.”
