BASALT – Two Basalt girls were hit by a car Friday afternoon while walking down the sidewalk on Midland Avenue.
The incident happened at around 3:45 Friday when the driver of the car was trying to park along the street and claims the accelerator got stuck. According to Basalt Police Chief Keith Ikeda, the car then struck another vehicle, which slammed into yet another vehicle, before jumping the curb onto the sidewalk.
“An 11-year-old girl and her 3-year-old sister were on the sidewalk when the car jumped the curb … and they were kind of pushed back by the car,” he said.
The girls received minor injuries and were taken to Aspen Valley Hospital as a precaution; both were released and doing fine Friday night. The vehicles involved in the accident sustained moderate damage, according to Ikeda.
The name of the driver was not available Friday night, and Ikeda was unsure if a ticket had been issued. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected.
