Capron won’t seek re-election in Basalt

BASALT – Basalt Town Councilwoman Amy Capron announced Tuesday night she will not seek re-election to a second term.

Capron said it was a tough decision because she has enjoyed working with the board on civic issues for the last four years. However, she and her husband are expecting their first child in the summer, so her responsibilities are changing.

Capron was elected in April 2006 as part of the Three Amigos along with Gary Tennenbaum and Chris Seldin. They ran on a slow-growth platform, and carried through by helping approve stricter growth controls, tougher affordable housing requirements and an urban growth boundary that defines where the town will grow.

Seldin previously announced he will not seek re-election. Tennenbaum said Tuesday night he is undecided.

The election for the three seats is April 6. Nomination petitions are now available and must be returned to the town clerk by 5 p.m. Friday, March 5. Each petition must be signed by at least 25 registered electors from Basalt.

Four people have picked up nomination petitions, although Bud Eylar said he decided against a bid. Former council members Anne Freedman and Glenn Rappaport said they will run and picked up petitions. Yalonda Long also picked up a petition.
