Can’t put a price on national security

Dear Editor:

In response to “Speak out against flyovers and fracking,” (letters, Oct. 17, 2011, The Aspen Times).

Mr. Boyles, I agree on the drilling not taking place in this valley. However, the flyovers are not something I will fight. You said that our communities hold different values than the military does. Well, sorry to say this, but those values that you hold, that I, that everyone in the nation holds, they are protected by those military personnel flying overhead.

I feel a little safer that the pilots of those aircraft, the troops on the group, the men and women fighting for your values and mine, are trained and prepared for anything that comes our way.

The wars abroad may end. Maybe world peace will be achieved, but just in case, I would rather say to any type of training, “better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.”
