Cannabis doesn’t kill
Dear Editor:
I understand the nanny-state liberal belief that the government should protect a citizen from cradle to grave. Mr. Stephenson is correct that cannabis, like every drug, can cause problems (“Don’t look the other way on marijuana,” letters, May 10, The Aspen Times). Liberals like Mr. Stephenson are now in the process of making salt illegal, just like pot is and for the same reason. It might hurt you.
As a police officer, I saw up close and personal that cannabis use caused not one call for service during my 18 years of service. Alcohol use, by contrast, caused about 1,300 calls, including rape, murder, suicide, etc. We are a Thin Blue Line. Who should we chase first? Willie Nelson on his back porch, a rapist, a drunken driver, or someone using too much salt?
