Candidates face Squirm Night on Friday

Aspen Times Staff Report

Looking for something to do on an off-season Friday night, when the lifts have all closed and the night scene is lacking in excitement? We have the perfect answer.

The Aspen Times, Aspen Daily News and GrassRoots TV are teaming up to offer that long-standing tradition, Squirm Night, this Friday night at the Aspen City Hall Council Chambers. The nine council candidates will be grilled from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by the three mayoral candidates from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Refreshments will be available.

The candidates will first have to answer a couple of questions from the media, and then the floor will be opened to the audience. Please bring questions already written down, or write down questions on cards that will be available that night. GrassRoots director John Masters will moderate.

The nine council candidates for two seats on the board include incumbents Tom McCabe and Tony Hershey, as well as Pepper Gomes, Vitashka Kirshen, Tom Peirce, Torre, Lisa Markalunas, Cliff Weiss and former Aspen mayor and councilwoman Rachel Richards.

Contending for the mayor’s seat are incumbent Helen Klanderud, present councilman Terry Paulson and television talk-show host Andrew Kole.

Please be thinking of some tough questions for the candidates. The evening will be aired several times on GrassRoots before the May 6 election.
