Candidate forum this Thursday

Dear Editor:

Just a reminder that the Pitkin County Candidate Forum is scheduled for this Thursday from 5:30-7:30 at the Lauder Room in the Koch Building at The Aspen Institute.

All five candidates for District 1 county commissioner (the only contested commissioner seat) and the three candidates for county sheriff are participating. The candidate panel for commissioner will run from 5:30-6:30 and the sheriff candidate panel will run from 6:45-7:30. Carolyne Heldman of Aspen Public Radio will be the moderator.

This is the only candidate forum before early voting starts on Aug. 2 (mail-in ballots have already been sent out). The forum is being organized by the Pitkin County Democratic Party and the Pitkin County Republicans and graciously sponsored by The Aspen Institute, ACRA, The Aspen Times, Aspen Daily News, Aspen Public Radio and GrassRoots TV.

Questions for the candidates may be submitted to ACRA now at or, at the latest, 15 minutes before the start of the forum to an ACRA representative present. Your questions are very welcome.

The forum will run on tight time limits for candidate presentations (two-minute opening statements) and responses. The Lauder Room is wonderfully comfortable with excellent acoustics, so please be sure to join us. If you have any questions, please call Camilla Auger, 544-0745, or Frieda Wallison, 927-2587.

Camilla Auger, chair, Pitkin County Democratic Party

Frieda Wallison, chair, Pitkin County Republicans
