Candidate for Basalt post bails

BASALT ” One of the three candidates for Basalt town manager has removed himself from consideration after accepting a different job.
Chuck Stearns, the town administrator in Georgetown and former town manager in Mount Crested Butte, bowed out, according to current Basalt town manager Bill Efting. Stearns accepted a position as town manager in Whitefish, Mont., Efting said.
That leaves two applicants for the Basalt post: Joe Kirby, Montrose County manager; and Alex Potente, Eagle County managing director of housing and assistant county attorney.
The Town Council is interviewing the candidates in an executive session Thursday. The public also has a chance to meet the candidates from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Town Center Booksellers.
No timetable has been set for naming a manager.
