Cameras needed at Marolt complex

Dear Editor:

I’m a musician who rents at Marolt. I’m not a fan of cameras because I feel they are intrusive. But last year I witnessed an attempted break-in at Marolt. I stopped them and told them I was going to call the police. The police were great but did not charge them. They did track one of them down to question him, which led me to talk to tenants who live at Marolt, where I heard stories of people’s locks being picked and broken down.

I’m there late at night every night and see random people all the time who obviously don’t know the area because if they did they would be in the Laundromat area doing their laundry, or if they were a musician they would be in their room.

So it makes me feel like they’re scoping the area out to steal until they realize the music-room doors have heavy-bolted locks or that someone is going to hear them try to break a door down. I feel bad for the homeless who sleep in the laundry room. But they can be very aggressive, which is awful because you’re stuck in there with them being a bully over a dollar while your trying to do your laundry.

The cameras are going to be in common areas, not inside of tenants’ rentals. If a camera is going to deter a thief from stealing my equipment, which has taken me years of hard work to obtain, I would be very grateful. Just a side note: The staff who work at Marolt could not be nicer and more helpful and keep the place beautiful!
