Calling out the Crowns

Dear Editor:

Will the Crowns pay a living wage to their worker bees?

Note that this family owns $2,000,000,000-plus of General Dynamics. Whatever your feelings about the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians as war casualties of the weapons of mass production that the Crowns pedal to the U.S. military, the Washington Post concluded: “The evolution of General Dynamics was based on one simple strategy: Follow the money.”

And so it is the same for Aspen. One reader made the following observation which warrants repeating: “To their defense, the Crowns have put a huge amount of money in infrastructure on our four mountains; however, Rolling Stone’s recent metaphor comes to mind. The Crown family of Chicago through their vehicle Aspen Skiing Co. seems like ‘great vampire squid wrapped around the least paid of Aspen, relentlessly jamming its blood funnel into anything that smells like money.'”

And Lester Crown is a “senior mentor” at the Aspen Institute? Really?
