Calling all veterans
Dear Editor:On Saturday, Aug. 11, at 6:30 p.m., the 20 year Re-Dedication Ceremony of the Roaring Fork Valley Veterans Memorial will be held at the Pitkin County Courthouse, 506 E. Main St. in Aspen. The memorial ceremony will include patriotic music, reflections by veterans, county and city officials, concluding with a candlelight ceremony honoring all those who served.Twenty years ago, veterans marched down Aspen Main Street from the Hickory House carrying our national colors to dedicate the Roaring Fork Valley Veterans Memorial. Organizers want to re-enact the dedication of 20 years ago, and ask all veterans who can join us to assemble at the Hickory House at 6 p.m. to march down Main Street to the Memorial.The wearing of military memorabilia is encouraged. The public is invited to the ceremony commencing at 6:30 p.m. at the courthouse. Colorado legislation looks to make standardized tests optional for college admission
Students would no longer be required to take the SAT or ACT when applying to Colorado’s public colleges under proposed legislation that aims to make higher education more accessible to low-income and first-generation college applicants who often don’t do as well on standardized tests.
