Calling all green firms
The city of Aspen is launching a new program to reward outstanding environmental efforts by local businesses and is seeking nominees for recognition.The Green Leaves Program will reward businesses for good practices in the following categories: recycling, toxic materials awareness, conservation, conscientious purchasing, green building, commitment to counter global warming and other unique efforts. The details are available from Aspen’s Environmental Health Department at aspenpitkin.com/depts/44 or 920-5071. Green Leaves recognition will be issued on a continuous basis as the city receives nominations.One Green Tree award will be issued quarterly (when applicable) to exceptional establishments that demonstrate exemplary environmental practices by achieving at least five Green Leaves. In appreciation, the Aspen Recreation Center will offer a designated 48-hour period during which anyone with proof of employment at the winning Green Tree business will be granted free admission.”With these programs, the city applauds exemplary businesses for their investments in preserving the environment and hopes to encourage other establishments to follow their lead,” said Lacey Gaechter at the environmental health department.To nominate your business or someone else’s, write a detailed description of its environmental practices and submit it for review by the city Green Team and the environmental health department.
