Calling all bandits

WARNING: To all property owners in Pitkin County with “bandit” units…

If you own property in Pitkin County with a “bandit” unit that was put together without a building permit, DO NOT attempt to legalize your unit through the Pitkin County land use process.

From my experience, the current board of county commissioners will hold your prior conduct of not obtaining a building permit against you and deny your application to make things right.

Consequently, the people who rely upon your “bandit unit” for affordable housing will be unjustly punished by a loss of housing for your prior transgression.
