Buttermilk manager on unpaid leave

ASPEN ” Buttermilk Mountain Manager Hans Hohl has been placed on unpaid administrative leave for the remainder of the ski season by the Aspen Skiing Co.

The company announced Tuesday that it took the action against Hohl effective Feb. 5 for reasons that weren’t specified.

“Out of respect for the privacy of our employees, we do not discuss personnel matters and will have no further comments on this matter,” a statement released by the Skico said.

Hohl couldn’t be reached for comment Tuesday. Multiple sources with knowledge of the situation said Hohl was disciplined for relations with a female employee who reported to him.

Skico spokesman Jeff Hanle wouldn’t discuss what the Skico handbook says about relations between a supervisor and an employee.

“There was nothing illegal,” Hanle said.

He wouldn’t say if Hohl will be employed by the Skico beyond this season. Hohl began working with the company in 1991 and advanced through the ranks of the ski school. He was named Buttermilk mountain manager in 2001. As mountain manager, Hohl had overseen everything from the ski school to ski patrol to mountain operations.

John Kneiper was appointed as Buttermilk mountain manager for the remainder of the season. He has been with the Skico since 1988 and most recently served as manager of the ski school and guest services manager at Buttermilk.
