Busy parents find the time to help a `Buddy’

Lacy and Ernie Fyrwald have four children of their own, so many of us can only imagine what their days must be like. However, they have decided to become a Senior Buddy to a valley child for reasons that many of us can imagine.

“We want to have a Buddy for three reasons: First and foremost is to provide a nurturing environment for a child; second, because we feel children need to learn the importance of contributing to society. We hope a Buddy will be a friend to our children and they can all learn from and benefit each other mutually.

“And thirdly, we each want to be part of a community that supports one another. If we all work together, perhaps we can help make our valley a little better and a little safer. This is one way we are doing our part to make this a better place.”

The Aspen and Mid-Valley Programs thank Lacy and Ernie from the bottom of our hearts. Please remember that the Mid-Valley Buddies is in extreme need of Senior Buddies. Anyone interested in becoming a Buddy, or in helping out with any of the kids in the program, should call the Aspen Buddy Program at 925-5717, or Mid-Valley Buddies at 927-1001.

The Buddy of the Month feature appears the first Wednesday of every month in The Aspen Times. Each month the column will feature a child who is hoping to be matched with an adult “buddy,”or someone else involved in the programs.
