Bush’s consequences
A wise leader divides his enemies and unites his friends. President Bush has succeeded to the opposite result. Our enemies are largely united and our friends are deeply divided.
On the domestic scene Americans are generally perceived to be open-minded, generous and fair. However, our president has exposed and exacerbated some of the inevitable cleavages that exist in every society pertaining to religious beliefs, ecological issues, wealth vs. poverty, civil liberties, social justice and important issues of governance. The anger expressed in some recent letters attests to that.
We shall have good reason and perhaps many years to lament the consequences of his leadership.
