Burlingame lot of open-space interest

Pitkin County’s Open Space Program is interested in acquiring a 35-acre chunk of the city of Aspen’s Burlingame Ranch property.

The parcel is on the southwest side of Highway 82, on a slope near the east end of Sardy Field. The city may decide to sell the parcel to an as-yet undetermined private buyer, who could apply for permission to build a house of up to 15,000 square feet on it.

The property is across Highway 82 from the main portion of the Burlingame Ranch, which is under discussion for two affordable housing developments.

The Pitkin County Open Space and Trails board of trustees discussed acquiring the property Thursday, at the suggestion of member Hawk Greenway. The trustees generally agreed the parcel might be a good target for acquisition.

“I would like to have a discussion about it before they put it on the open market,” Greenway said.
