Build it now
Dear Editor:I am writing as a resident of the Basalt Regional Library District to urge voters to vote Yes on Referendum 4A and Referendum 4B. Passage of these referendums will provide the mid-valley with a state of the art library. The current library is too small to continue to serve a very large library district that is continuing to grow at approximately 6 percent per year. The Colorado Library Association classifies the Basalt Regional Library as a resort library because it serves not only a permanent population, but a population made up of tourists and second-home owners, which increases the per capita use of the library. By ranking our library by per capita use, Basalt Regional Library is last in comparison with other resort libraries. The proposed facility of approximately 20,000 square feet will provide more space for a children’s area, reading materials, computers and ample space for meetings and lectures. This will be a community gathering space in downtown Basalt that will serve our community well into the future. It makes much more sense to build for the future needs at today’s building cost. Let’s not wait to see what happens, the building costs will only escalate.Right plan. Right place. Right now. Vote Yes on 4A and 4B.Pat FallinBasalt
