Buddy bash a success

Dear Editor:

Thank you to all who contributed to the success of our annual fund-raising event on July 1, the 12th anniversary of Boogie’s Bash for the Buddies, with more than 500 guests attending to support our local youth!

We are especially grateful to all the Bash patrons, volunteers, restaurant contributors, our silent auction coordinator Andrea Dill, live auction and silent auction contributors, corporate and in-kind sponsors led by Fendi as our exclusive fashion partner, Aspen Magazine, our awesome intern – GiGi Weihe, and our outstanding event producers – Peter Helburn of Just Ask Peter and Jennifer Greechan.

Considered the party of the year, Boogie’s Bash for the Buddies was held this year on picturesque Aspen Mountain and we enjoyed an amazing sunset on the gondola ride to dinner after an extremely fun cocktail party on Gondola Plaza. The Buddy Program was proud to celebrate the defining contributions of a few of our extraordinary donors and supporters as honorees of this year’s event: Russ and Melissa Wight, Bill and Jessica Budinger, and Don and Marianne Buchholz. Additionally, Tony Mazza received a special award for his commitment to the Buddy Program as a Big Buddy for over 20 years and long-term financial support with his wife, Mona Look-Mazza.

Many thanks to Belly Up, Aspen Brewery, Italian Wine Merchants, Cache Cache, The Caribou Club, Conundrum Catering, “drizzle bar,” Elevation, Jimmy’s, Matsuhisa, Pinons, Rustique, Syzygy, and everyone in the food and beverage department of the Little Nell, for their incredible support.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to all of our wonderful board members led by Diane Anderson, Leadership Development board members led by Jimmy Marcus and David Cook, our very generous National Council donors led by Mona Look-Mazza and Tony Mazza, and of course our fearless chairman of the board, Lenny “Boogie” Weinglass, who has been instrumental in the Buddy Program’s ability to help hundreds of our community’s children.

The Buddy Program grew its programs and reach by 20 percent in 2010 with the addition of experiential group mentoring programs and peer-to-peer and school-based mentoring programs in the Carbondale schools. In total, the Buddy Program served 644 youth from Aspen to Parachute – double the number served in 2005!

Of course we could not continue the programs without our amazing donors and every year at this time we reflect on the amazing passion that the community shares with us to protect and support the lives of our local youth. Our team – Lindsay Lofaro, Karmen Pittenger, Sole Lowe, Heather Hicks, Kim Kraunz, Kaitlyn Archambault, Rebecca Smalley, Sarah Evans, and Carleen Joseph – is extremely dedicated and we promise to continue these programs in an efficient manner to the best use of your investment and to the maximum benefit for each child in our programs.

We are enormously fortunate to have such a strong group of generous supporters who continue to help us strengthen our community by guiding and inspiring youth through mentoring. Thank you!
