Bucksbaum to chair Aspen Music Festival board
June 25, 2010
ASPEN – Kay Bucksbaum has been nominated as chairwoman of the Aspen Music Festival and School board of trustees, the organization announced Thursday.
The board will meet Tuesday to vote on its new officers; prior to the meeting, Bucksbaum will work with the board’s nominating committee to develop a slate of other officers.
Bucksbaum will replace Mike Murray, the board’s acting chairman. Murray took the position temporarily earlier this month after the board voted to remove former chairman Rob LeBuhn, who served during a rocky time for the Music Festival. Since last fall Alan Fletcher, the organization’s president and CEO, was removed by the board’s executive committee; was rehired by the full board; was given a no-confidence vote by the festival’s Corporation; and, earlier this month, offered a two-year contract extension. Also, in April, David Zinman, the festival’s music director, resigned.
Bucksbaum and her husband, Matthew, have been supporters of the Music Festival for more than three decades and are the organization’s largest lifetime donors. Among their donations was the lead gift of $5 million for the Benedict Music Tent, and a commitment for the lead gift to redevelop the Castle Creek campus, to be called the Bucksbaum Campus. Kay is a current Music Festival board member, and Matthew served as board chairman from 1999-02 and 2005-06.
