Bring back Jack

Dear Editor:

I am writing to ask you to cast your vote for Jack Johnson for City Council. Jack is very smart and he gets Aspen’s values ” indeed, over the last four years he has voted consistently to respect Aspen’s environmental stewardship, growth control, a sustainable local economy, preservation of our few remaining local places, and aggressive creation of affordable housing. Jack unequivocally supports all of these policies. If you care about these issues, Jack Johnson is your candidate and he should be number one on your list.

I don’t usually support City Council candidates, but when I met Jack Johnson in connection with the city’s proposed closure of the Aspen Ice Garden, I was immediately impressed by his passion and huge intellect for all things Aspen. Jack was the only City Council member who invited me to discuss the importance of the Aspen Ice Garden and the practical implications of its closure, and I’m sure he is the only person who would sit ” as he did with me ” for two hours in an Aspen coffee house discussing Aspen politics.

Wow! That’s what I have to say about Jack. Vote for Jack Johnson on May 5. If you care about the future of Aspen, you’ll get everyone you know out of their apartments and houses to vote for Jack.
