Bright future for local football

Dear Editor:

As head coach of the Super Bowl-bound Aspen Wolfpack fifth- and sixth-grade football team, I’d like to give a note of thanks to those that make this sport possible for the 50(!) athletes that participated this year.

Without the Aspen Elks Lodge, the cooperation of the school athletic department, and the parks and recreation department of Aspen we’d be watching Basalt, Carbondale and Glenwood middle schools walk away with the valley championship. Instead the two Aspen teams finished first and second in the valley!

The Aspen Wolfpack went undefeated this year with a 128-35 point spread, and the Aspen team’s only loss was to their schoolmates! The future of Aspen football looks bright indeed!

Thanks also to Ron Morehead and Charlie Martin, the local town representatives for Three Rivers Youth Football, and again to all who’ve made this possible for these kids.

“The meanest coach in the world!”
