Briefs (public input sought for trails; childcare financial aid deadline looms)
Public input on trails plan welcome
The final push for public input into an Upper Roaring Fork Valley Trails Plan will take place at noon Friday at Snowmass Village Town Hall.
The plan has been a work in progress since late 2013. Everyone from equestrians to mountain bikers, hikers and other trail users have been invited to offer their ideas for future trail projects in the upper valley — from Woody Creek to the high country above Aspen. Friday brings one last chance to look over maps of Pitkin County and sketch possible new trails and trail connections.
Progressive Trail Design and the International Mountain Bicycling Association are working on the trails plan in collaboration with Pitkin County Open Space and Trails, the city of Aspen, town of Snowmass Village, U.S. Forest Service and Aspen Skiing Co.
The goal is getting ideas down on paper as the first step toward figuring out what is feasible, said Gary Tennenbaum, assistant director of Open Space and Trails. A draft of the trails plan, due out this summer, will zero in on what projects can be pursued realistically over the next decade or so.
“We get a lot of requests from people — put a trail here, put a trail there. The plan will help define where the potential for a new trail exists and where it simply doesn’t,” he said.
Those who cannot attend Friday’s meeting can offer their input at http://www.pitkinost projects.com and click on the link to the Upper Roaring Fork Valley Trails Plan. A summary of ideas proposed so far is also posted on the website.
