GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. ” A “transmission event” is being blamed for a massive power outage in the Grand Valley that left some 46,000 customers without electricity.

The power went out at 2 a.m. Friday, but was back on by 2:13 a.m.

Xcel Energy spokesman Mark Stutz says it was some kind of transmission event that darkened the entire Grand Valley, affecting customers in Grand Junction, Clifton, Fruita and Orchard Mesa.

The reason for the outage is under investigation.
