Breaking news: Pedestrian hit on Highway 82, dies later

BASALT ” A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle on Highway 82 in the midvalley Thursday night and later died from his injuries, Basalt Police Chief Keith Ikeda said Friday.

The accident occurred at 10:45 p.m. at Highway 82 and Original Road, where a new stoplight was put in earlier this year. The driver of the vehicle initially fled, but later returned to the scene and was arrested, Ikeda said.

The victim “was transported to Valley View Hospital by ambulance and later died,” the police chief said.

Ikeda said he needed to learn more about the circumstances of the accident from investigating officers before he could release more details. The name of the victim and driver who was arrested weren’t immediately available.
