Breaking News: Man stands accused of child abuse

PITKIN COUNTY ” A 21-year-old man was arrested Friday morning for alleged child abuse of a toddler at a Pitkin County residence.
Mason Levi Martin, of Rifle, is accused of child abuse. The crime is classified as a class III felony and carries a potential term of 16 years in prison, according to state sentencing guidelines.
The alleged incident took place at Aspen Village, authorities said. Pitkin County sheriff’s deputies arrested Martin. A short while later he appeared in Pitkin County District Court before Judge James Boyd.
Boyd issued a mandatory protection order at the court hearing Friday. The order forbids Martin from contacting the mother of the child or the youngster.
Martin is being held on $10,000 bond at the Pitkin County jail. He is to next appear in court at 10:30 a.m. June 1, at which time the District Attorney’s Office in Aspen is expected to file charges.
