Bravo to Basalt singers

Dear Editor:

Congratulations to our 2010 Colorado All State High School Honor Choir participants Emily Morley and Dominick Strecher, both seniors at Basalt High School, and their choir director, Katie Hone Wiltgen.

This week I had the wonderful privilege of attending the Wells Fargo Theatre in Denver for the 2010 All State Choir Concert. Three elite choirs – men’s, women’s and mixed – were selected following an audition this fall. Comprised of junior and senior high school students, each performed four or five beautiful songs. These young students’ performance was outstanding and fabulous considering they must learn and practice individually with their local school director each musical selection. They then join together in Denver for two-and-a-half days with three conductors and approximately 500 students, and prepare as an all-state choir for their one evening performance. Wow, such amazing voices.

Everyone is invited to experience a special BHS choir fundraising “Coffeehouse” dessert event scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Basalt High School. Both Emily and Dominick and all their high school choir members will fill the evening with numerous musical numbers.
