Booming Basalt needs new library

Dear Editor:The Basalt Regional Library serves three times the number of people that it was designed for. Circulation has increased over 18 percent and library usage has nearly tripled from August 2005 to August 2006. Furthermore, the library district will be serving a projected population of 17,000 in 10 years. The current building is bursting at the seams!A YES vote on 4A and 4B will afford the greater midvalley community one new library near schools and downtown, next to the Basalt Post Office with easy access by foot, bus or car; comfortable seating and study areas; wired, flexible meeting spaces; a large children’s area; expanded hours and additional computers. The ballot is long; early and absentee voting are strongly encouraged. Early voting begins Oct. 23 and applications for absentee ballots can be downloaded from Pitkin and Eagle counties now.Polly PollardBRLD Board President
