EL JEBEL ” A bomb squad from the Grand Junction Police Department was called to Blue Lake subdivision in El Jebel Tuesday to cart off and later detonate commercial grade fireworks possessed by some young men, according to authorities.
Eagle County sheriff’s deputies investigated a report of shots fired Sunday and found a discharged explosive device in the Blue Lake area, according to a press release. Deputies canvassed the neighborhood and during follow-up on Tuesday identified three male youth as suspects.
The three youths allegedly admitted to setting off the fireworks and their parents were notified.
“The parent who had purchased the fireworks gave the sheriff’s deputy three additional boxes of fireworks, one which contained another commercial grade firework, for safe disposal,” said a press release from the sheriff’s office. “The fireworks had been purchased in Missouri, where laws regarding the sales and use of firework are different. No criminal charges were filed against the El Jebel youth.”
The unauthorized use of any explosive device or firework that leaves the ground in Colorado is a class four felony.
The Grand Junction police bomb squad picked up the fireworks for safe disposal, according to Eagle County sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sara Cross.
